WARDOGS beginner base building tips and tricks guide

A good WARDOGS base is not the one with the most walls. It is the one that gives your team a useful spawn, safe access, supplies and defenses without consuming everything you have on structures nobody needs.

1. Build for a purpose

Before placing anything, decide why the FOB exists. Is it supporting a Control Zone, protecting a route, creating a forward spawn, staging vehicles, supporting mortars or defending a flank? Your answer determines where the base should go and which structures deserve supplies first.

2. Do not place the core in the obvious spot

Avoid putting the most important component directly on a hilltop, road intersection or exposed skyline. Use terrain, buildings and natural cover. The base should be easy for friendlies to reach but harder for enemies to identify and shell immediately.

3. Start small

Build the minimum useful base first. Get the core function online, then add defenses as supplies arrive. A huge half-finished perimeter is often weaker than a compact base with a protected spawn and controlled entrance.

4. Protect the spawn and core

Do not leave the heart of the base visible from the gate. Use walls, barriers and terrain to break line of sight. Keep enough room for players to spawn and move without becoming trapped in one small box.

5. Create a controlled entrance

Use gates and barriers to slow enemy vehicles and infantry. Avoid one perfectly straight lane from outside the FOB to the center. If the base becomes important, upgrade the entrance into a layered airlock. See our mortar-resistant gate guide for a stronger version.

6. Keep logistics in mind

Your FOB is only useful if teammates can resupply it. Leave practical routes for trucks and helicopters. Do not wall off the exact path your own logistics players need to use.

7. Build the defenses that match the threat

If enemy helicopters dominate the area, anti-air deserves priority. If armor controls the road, use vehicle obstacles and anti-vehicle defenses. If infantry keeps slipping through one side, reinforce that approach. React to the battle instead of following the same build every match.

8. Spread important structures out

Clustering everything in one neat square makes enemy mortar and artillery fire more efficient. Give critical pieces enough separation that one blast does not damage the entire base.

9. Leave repair access

Builders need to reach damaged walls, gates and support structures from cover. Do not bury important pieces behind decorative clutter or force repair players to stand outside the perimeter.

10. Upgrade after the base proves useful

If the team keeps spawning there and the location stays relevant, strengthen it. If the battle has moved away, do not keep sinking supplies into an obsolete position simply because you already started building it.

Beginner mistakes to avoid

  • Building too far from where teammates actually need a spawn.
  • Using all supplies on walls before the base is functional.
  • Blocking friendly vehicles and logistics routes.
  • Putting the core and every important structure in one mortar target.
  • Leaving only one unprotected entrance.
  • Continuing to expand a base after the fight has moved elsewhere.

FAQ

Should a beginner build a huge FOB?

No. Start compact and useful. Expand only when the location matters enough to justify the supplies.

What should I build first?

Prioritize the base’s core purpose, a usable spawn, protected access and the defenses needed against the immediate threat.
